Finances of Fenerbahçe Basketball

Image
While the exact financial details of Fenerbahçe's sponsorship deals with companies like Beko have not been disclosed, it is estimated that the team earns millions of dollars each year from these partnerships. For example, in 2018, it was reported that Fenerbahçe's total sponsorship revenue for the year was around $50 million, with the team's jersey sponsorship deal accounting for a significant portion of that revenue.  In addition to sponsorship deals, Fenerbahçe also generates revenue through ticket sales ($21 million) merchandise sales ($7 million) and other sources. The team's success on the court has helped to boost its financial performance, with the team consistently finishing near the top of the Turkish Basketball League and competing at the highest levels of European basketball. Despite this financial success, Fenerbahçe is not immune to the challenges faced by many sports teams around the world. The COVID-19 pandemic, for example, has had a significant impact ...

Fenerbahçe S.K. - Women's Team

Image
Fenerbahçe S.K. - A look at the WNBA and EuroLeague Women With the NBA being seen as the top basketball league in the world, and one that foreign players strive to play in, basketball fans may think the WNBA to be the same way. Many current NBA stars have used international leagues as stepping stones in their journeys to make it to the NBA; foreign players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokić (both 2x NBA MVPs) and even American born players, Brandon Jennings and LaMelo Ball (played internationally instead of D1 College basketball).  In the case of the WNBA and EuroLeague Women, however, many players decide not to join the WNBA. Not only do players have the opportunity to make higher salaries in foreign leagues, but the level of play could be a lot closer  than some might think according to WNBA players.  Alina Iagupova is a guard for Fenerbahçe's women's team who has won 2 EuroLeague MVP awards in the last 3 seasons. Although she was selected late in the WNBA...

Former Dallas Mavericks guard Tyler Dorsey signs with Fenerbahce

Image
Just yesterday, March 1st, Fenerbahçe announced in a press release that Tyler Dorsey, former guard from the Dallas Mavericks will be signing with their team.  The contract limits Dorsey, because if he were even able to get an offer from the NBA he would not be able to take it.  Dorsey was a former all star for the Oregon team, that he made the final four with 6 years ago. He then played on Maccabi Tel Aviv and Greece's team, Olympiacos from 2019-2022. His strong commitment and successes lead to a "two way deal" with the Dallas Mavericks this past off season, but he " he failed to crack Dallas’ rotation" and only got playing time in three games, before being waived at the end of the year.  Dorsey played on the G league team, Texas Legends, and the team allowed him to release his contract in order to play in the EuroLeague. It was essential that he was able to be released this early due to the fact that March 1 is the deadline to register new players in the Eurol...

The BEKO Partnership with Fenerbahce

Image
For sports programs, it is essential to have a sponsor/sponsorships that help promote your team, your players, and your brand. Many of these programs look to create a partnership with another company that matches their brand personality and aligns with their values. In 2018, Fenerbahce came to an agreement with BEKO for a mu lti-year partnership.  Beko is now the naming partner of Fenerbahçe Men's Basketball Team. They originally supported other teams throughout the Turkish Basketball League as well as the European Basketball Championship, and they have now signed on to sponsor Fenerbahce for multiple years.  The choice to partner with a company like BEKO is very interesting because it shifts focus onto the campaign of BEKO and what they stand for.    BEKO's slogan “Eat Like A Pro”, is an initiative they launched to fight childhood obesity. BEKO is looking to promote healthy eating habits among children by advertising their hero basketball players as role...

The History of Fenerbahçe Beko Istanbul

Image
Fenerbahçe was founded in 1907, but opened its doors to basketball seven years later. This was due to the Balkan Wars and World War I. When the sport became popular in Turkey, which was when it was founded in its current permanent form (1944), it had great success.  The Turkish National Championships arrived in 1957, 1959, and 1965 and Fenerbahçe gained great success by winning in these years.  The rest of the 1960s was successful but it got more competitive and difficult in the 1970s and 1980s. Traditional sports clubs like Fenerbahçe found it challenging to compete with these teams because they belonged to well-known enterprises with a strong financial foundation and backing.  In the seasons 1984-85, 1987-88, and 1989-90, Fenerbahçe finished first in the league, with star players such as Erman Kunter, Aytek Gürkan, Can Sonat, Ferhat Oktay, Pete Williams and Larry Richard (who were eliminated later in the post season).  In 1991, the team won the championship that th...
